BJR shifts focus to race prep at Bathurst 1000

Brad Jones Racing has switched its full focus to preparing its three GR Supras for race day at the Bathurst 1000.

With qualifying complete, the team will use tomorrow’s practice sessions to make sure the cars are race ready.

In Super2, BJR celebrated a podium result for Brad Vaughan in the first race of the weekend.

Supercars

  • Andre Heimgartner (#8 R&J Batteries GR Supra) missed the Shootout by just 0.06 of a second. With margins incredibly tight across the field, he will start 15th.

  • Cam Hill (#14 Dare GR Supra) is chasing better balance in the car, and the team has the opportunity to dial in the Dare Racing entry tomorrow. Hill qualified 19th.

  • Macauley Jones (#96 Automotive Superstore GR Supra) will work closely with his crew overnight to find a little more pace for race day. He was just behind Hill on the timesheet in 20th.

Super2

Brad Vaughan has had a stunning Saturday with a podium in Race 1.

  • Brad Vaughan (Dare Iced Coffee #80 ZB Commodore) secured a spot in the Top Five Shootout and started the race fifth. He made his way to third in the race where he crossed the line.

  • Matt Hillyer (Kangan Institute #2 ZB Commodore) had a tricky Qualifying and was unfortunately spun in today’s race meaning he did not finish.

SUPERCARS

Andre Heimgartner, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra

“Solid day. Instead of concentrating on race running the whole time we managed to turn it off a bit for qualifying and we’re the fastest Toyota which is something. But just a day late and a dollar short getting into the shootout. I just needed a little bit more and just couldn't quite make the changes and adapt fast enough. But, reasonably happy with it. Good starting position. We can sort of see the top 10 at least from there and we'll just see how we go tomorrow. Just working on the race car now.”

Co-driver | Bryce Fullwood, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra

“Day two done. Obviously, priorities working on our race car so I wouldn't say we put a whole lot of time into our quali car so I think we're reasonably happy with all things considered. We’re the highest Toyota so that's cool. I think that's something the team should be proud of. More race running tomorrow and then look forward to Sunday.”

Cameron Hill, #14 Dare Racing Toyota GR Supra

“It was an okay day. I felt like we were chipping away and making the car better and then in qualifying we probably didn't quite have the car we needed. But my last two runs weren't very clean either, so there's definitely work to do if you look at all of the Toyotas. We're probably a bit further down than we'd like. It's a long race on Sunday. We won't rule anything out.”

Co-driver | Brad Vaughan, #14 Dare Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Main game was really good for Cam. I didn't do any more laps today. It was just full focus on qualifying. We qualified 19th which is not quite what we wanted. But all the Toyotas are around the same place, so it's a long day Sunday.”

Macauley Jones, #96 Automotive Superstore Racing Toyota GR Supra

“My day was okay. I feel like we probably went a little bit in the wrong direction for qualifying, but it was still fun which is half the battle. I feel like there's a bit more left on the table, so I feel like we'll start working on a race car and see if we can make some gains in in that way. So, there's some positives I think to take from the day and we’ll see what the weather does too tomorrow. That'll be interesting.”

Co-driver | Jordan Boys, #96 Automotive Superstore Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Quiet day only did a couple laps in the morning. Race car feels better than the quali car, so we'll do a lot more race running tomorrow and see where we get to.”

Super2

Brad Vaughan, #80 Dare Racing ZB Commodore

“Made the shootout and started fifth. Got a good start in the race. The chaos unfolded at Turn 1 and came out in P3 which I was really happy with. From there, it was just a hit my marks race. Had a really good battle with Nash and bought it home P3. So happy with that. Bring on tomorrow.”

Matt Hillyer, #2 Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore

“Ended up backwards while running p7 today, reset for another quali and race tomorrow. Eyes forward.”
