Top ten result for Heimgartner in unpredictable Sunday QR race

Andre Heimgartner started Race 25 in 20th but after a brilliant call from his crew in pitlane made his way into the top ten at the Ipswich Super 440.

The results means that Heimgartner finishes 10th in the Supercars Sprint Cup.

The R&J Batteries driver was running long on his first stint and was gifted a Safety Car just after half race distance.

The team were able to circle him through the lane twice to fulfill his fuel requirements and feed him back out in third.

It was then a hard defensive effort for Heimgartner to keep racing in the top ten, he was swallowed up by eventual race winner Broc Feeney on the restart but he put out the elbows for 15 laps.

Making Chaz Mostert go around the hard way, Heimgartner raced him hard and only lost out with a handful of laps to go.

He eventually came across the line in 8th, promoted to 7th due to others’ penalties.

Bryce Fullwood in the JWL Racing Camaro also had a storming race, starting from a difficult 25th, Fullwood was able to make an impact in the race.

Coming through a massive 12 spots, Fullwood finished in 13th.

SCT Motorsports’ Jaxon Evans had a challenging car during the race but did very well to finish in 15th.

Macaulay Jones was pushed off the track in some Lap 1 mayhem and then also had a difficult car to drive during the latter part of the race.

Supercars now enters Enduro season, with The Bend 500 September 12-14,  but first teams will participate in a test day at Queensland Raceway.

Super2

Cody Gillis has scored another Top 10 for himself in what has been a positive weekend in the Super2 series.

A tricky qualifying session saw himself in 13th to start the race.

The Wollongong-based driver fought through the pack and crossed the line in 9th.

On the other side of the garage, Brad Vaughan suffered with a clutch failure which ultimately ended his race.

The young gun had promising pace in qualifying setting himself up in 7th on the grid but was not given the opportunity to show his potential.

There’s a break between rounds with the series continuing at the Repco Bathurst 1000 on October 9-12.

SUPERCARS QUOTEBOARD

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

"Interesting race. Just didn't have quite enough speed at end to hold off for a podium or up the top. We scaled what we could from it. We still have a bit of work to do. It's obviously a change of speed now to the enduros, which should be cool. So get Declan involved. Bit more of a team exercise, and got some really cool events coming up, so looking forward to that. Ggot a bit of a break now, so we'll reset, see if we can improve some things. And come back hopefully stronger than ever in the next round. And yeah, just enjoy the Enduro and having Declan with us and the long races. So can't wait. "

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 JWL Racing Camaro

"Look really struggled today in qualifying. Sort of thought we were going to be a little bit better than that, but just didn't quite hook up for us. The car sort of not really made a lot of sense for us this weekend. Certainly been different from what we've had the last few rounds. So that was really tough. We managed to do a good job in the race, I think in the wet, we managed to make up quite a few spots, and then just kind of held on to it from there. I feel like we made gains in the last race with the car, but we've got a lot of work to do to be where we want to be."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

"The race was a bit of a struggle. Tricky conditions in the first few laps and I made a few too many mistakes. And then it seemed like we had a tyre pressure problem when the second stop. So it was pretty average in the in the last half of the race, but an improvement on qualifying, which is a positive."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

"Started pretty average. Rolled out with what we thought was going to be a fast car in qualifying, because it was yesterday, and couldn't really extract any more speed than what I did. So we were P21 which was frustrating. Race was kind of exciting. We started in the dry, and it rained for like five laps, which was cool, made some passes, and then sort of settled into a rhythm. Late Safety Car bunched us all up but just sort of struggled with the tyre life at the end of the race. So all in all, not a not a great weekend, but we moved forward today and we've got some ideas going forward for the test. We'll knuckle down and keep ticking away."

SUPER2 QUOTEBOARD

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 DARE ZB Commodore

“Decent day today, made plenty of positions and ended up in the 10 which is a good result for the weekend. Thanks to Dare for all their support and to the whole BJR crew for the hard work they put in.”

Brad Vaughan
Super2 driver, #80 Dormer HVAC ZB Commodore

“Very average day. Had a slipping clutch coming around to the start of the race. And then, my race start wasn't very good and that was unfortunately the end of my race. I couldn't even keep up with a safety car. Unfortunate way to end the weekend but there's plenty of promise, so we’ll come back strong next round.”
