Hill gets a top ten finish on Sunday in the Top End

Brad Jones Racing happy with points haul in Race 19 on Sunday at the Darwin Triple Crown.

BJR moves up the teams’ Championship order to 7th ahead of the Townsville 500 next month (July 10-12).

Race 19

70 Laps

  • Cameron Hill (#14 FGI Racing GR Supra) qualified 8th

  • Andre Heimgartner (#8 R&J Batteries GR Supra), qualified 10th

  • Macauley Jones (#96 Dormer HVAC Racing GR Supra) qualified 21st

  • Hill persevered in the Darwin heat after a coolsuit failure early in Race 19. It was a long afternoon for the driver of the #14 GR Supra but he was able to finish inside the top ten (9th).

  • Heimgartner ran a longer middle stint than the rest of the BJR contingent, he was just outside the ten at the flag, finishing 11th.

  • The #96 Supra started the race from 20th and despite Jones being pushed off the track on the opening lap, he was able to come through to 15th.

SUPER2

Brad Vaughan sits third in the Series standings after scoring another Top 10 in today’s race.

Teammate Matt Hillyer unfortunately copped a penalty following contact in the early stages and finished 12th.

  • Brad Vaughan (Precision International #80 ZB Commodore) was spun while running in podium contention and held on to finish 6th.

  • Matt Hillyer (Kangan Institute #2 ZB Commodore) fought hard to climb his way up the pack to maximise the time lost from the penalty.

QUOTEBOARD

SUPERCARS

Andre Heimgartner, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra

“Solid day for the team and points wise. Just a continuation of the rest of the weekend, struggled with understeer finding balance with the car. Unfortunately, we bent something yesterday so we couldn't get a read and I was hoping it would be a bit better today, but it was still the same symptoms, so good damage limitation I guess, but hopefully we can get a bit more raw speed, would be nice coming forward.”

Cameron Hill, #14 FGI Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Much better day today compared to yesterday. We made the Shootout and had a pretty speedy car in the race. Unfortunately, I had my cool suit freeze up and fail on me around lap seven or eight, so that was not ideal but sort of knew that I was going to be able to get to the end if I just paced myself. It was nice to get a top 10 result and looking forward to Townsville.”

Macauley Jones, #96 Dormer HVAC Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Little bit disappointing with qualifying, feels like it's still on the drawing board to improve on that. Happy with the race pace, made a mistake early in the race and had to come back through there. So, all in all had some okay speed through the weekend and some good takeaways. Looking forward to Townsville and seeing what we can do there.”

SUPER2

Brad Vaughan #80 Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore

“A much better day today. Got an awesome start off the line, got into P2 had some really good pace to start the race. Unfortunately, got turned around by someone who's a common idiot which unfortunately ended that result. Not too bad though, still third in the points with plenty of races to go so we’ll push on.”

Matthew Hillyer, #2 Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore

“A bit of a rough Sunday for Race 2 here in Darwin from the car two side. Bit of a messy race for me, didn't get a great start and then made some contact which was not on purpose and then ended up with a 15 second penalty. I crossed the line about eighth or ninth and then ended up P12 after the penalty. The car speed was there, just didn't quite drive the race very well, so relearn and regroup and figure out how to go fast in Perth.”
