Heimgartner makes moves in Friday’s Melbourne SuperSprint action

Brad Jones Racing driver Andre Heimgartner was on the move during this afternoon’s Race 4 at Albert Park.

The quick Kiwi came through from 21st on the grid to 14th, making some serious gains over the shortened race.

The R&J Batteries driver was able to get on top of tyre management early, which saw him keep his pace late in the 17 lap affair.

Jaxon Evans in the SCT Logistics Camaro was required to fight back after dropping to last in the mid-portion of the race.

Evans was part of the feisty battle but made his way up to 19th at the line.

The Middy’s Electrical Camaro held it’s own under the steely nerves of Bryce Fullwood, only falling back to 15th as Heimgartner charged through.

While the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro sustained damage to the rear bar in the final few laps of the race,

Macauley Jones finished in 21st.

The field looks to do a full reset tomorrow, with two qualifying sessions setting the grids for the remaining two races.

Supercars are on track from 9:00am AEDT.

Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro
"Race today was pretty good, big step forward for us. Managed to tune the car up, feel a bit more confident today. So looking forward to tomorrow and having a bit of a crack. I think we made some good progress. The race couldn't have gone much better, managed to capitalise on other people's dramas."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Electrical Camaro
"Another tough race for us here at AGP. A lot of action, a lot of craziness going on. But ultimately,, we still have a lot to find in our car. We still went backwards in the race and so fortunately we have a lot of time now to look through all the data to try and come up with something better for tomorrow."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Camaro
"I feel like the car is very loose and it doesn't llook after its tyres. So we're having some tyre issues - delaminations and stuff so that really hurt our race. It felt like our race pace is okay up until halfway and then the tyre let go and that was all she wrote. For tomorrow we have to work out a better way of looking after our tyre. Andre seemed to be very happy with his car so maybe we'll go towards something like that but I don't know. We'll have a look at the data and get after it again tomorrow."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Logistics Camaro
"Well, it was a better day than yesterday, that's for sure. Because I actually got to do the race with a straight car. And it wasn't without some excitement. I made a small mistake and went off at Turn 1on my own, which is a bit of a shame. I guess we're kind of flying blind after not doing any laps in the race yesterday and getting an understanding for how this tyre works and things like that. I think  it's a step in the right direction, plenty to learn from and, hopefully we can tune up the car and go a little bit better in qualifying tomorrow before Race 5."
