BJR Supras hit the ground running at Sandown

Supercars

Brad Jones Racing has had a positive start to the Sandown 500 weekend in Melbourne.

Two practice sessions in fine conditions suited the BJR Supras.

  • Andre Heimgartner was the fastest Toyota in the R&J Batteries GR Supra, setting the fourth-fastest lap in Practice 2.

  • Cameron Hill was happy with the direction his crew was taking, and believes there is more to come from the Dare Racing GR Supra on the green tyre.

  • Macauley Jones was on a lap good enough for the top ten in the final practice session, but it was ruled out for a kerb strike. The JWL Racing GR Supra is in a good window, and Jones is looking to extract more from it tomorrow.

Super2

Friday's Practice sessions have seen both Super2 drivers get themselves up to speed with the recent parity change for the Holden ZB Commodore.

  • Brad Vaughan (Precision Engines #80 ZB Commodore) finished Practice 2 fourth just half a tenth behind 1st.

  • Matt Hillyer (Kangan Institute #2 ZB Commodore) suffered a gearbox failure in Practice 1 and was ninth in Practice 2.

SUPERCARS

Andre Heimgartner, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra

“Solid day, just worked through the practice sessions and really happy with how it ended up. P4 in the end and feel like the car is very speedy. So, looking forward to tomorrow and the weekend. It's good to continue on from Gold Coast out there.”

Cameron Hill, #14 Dare Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Pretty good day. We were just focusing on our super soft balance mainly and I thought I thought the car was pretty strong. So we'll see what tomorrow brings with the weather.”

Macauley Jones, #96 JWL Racing Toyota GR Supra

“My day wasn't too bad. I felt like the the race running was okay. We can still work on the balance there, but the green tyre run was pretty strong. Got a kerb strike on my best lap which was annoying for obvious reasons. But I feel like there's good potential there."

Super2

Brad Vaughan, #80  Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore
“Day one of Super2 was quite positive. Just working out the new parity changes to the ZB. So trialing some new things and then were up to P4 in the second practice, only half a 10th if not less away from the quickest.”

Matt Hillyer, #2 Brad Jones Racing ZB Commodore

“Friday done, always fun around Sandown. Rough first practice with a gearbox failure. Practice 2 we ran through our procedures and will tune for quali tomorrow! Should be interesting in the wet.”
