BJR scores double top-ten result in Sunday Sandown race

Bryce Fullwood has converted an excellent qualifying performance into a strong top-ten finish, while team-mate Andre Heimgartner delivered an extraordinary drive from last on the grid to tenth.

The Middy’s Camaro showed impressive speed in the mixed wet conditions throughout the day, earning its second appearance in the Top Ten Shootout.

Unfortunately, Fullwood had a moment in the third sector that invalidated his lap, despite setting the fastest times in sectors one and two.

Fullwood ultimately started 10th for Race 31 and pushed hard through the opening laps before heavy rain prompted an early pit stop.

Rejoining in fifth, he later made a small mistake, spinning and glancing the wall, but recovered and maintained a solid position inside the top ten.

He crossed the line in eighth at the end of the 81-lap race.

The R&J Batteries Camaro was caught out in qualifying by a late downpour, preventing Heimgartner from setting a representative time.

Starting from the rear of the field, his crew made a smart strategic call as rain returned during the race, keeping the #8 Camaro out longer than most of the field.

With strong pace, Heimgartner climbed 14 positions to finish tenth.

The SCT Motorsport entry of Jaxon Evans was competitive in the early stages, running just outside the top ten for much of the race.

However, Evans reported that the car’s balance deteriorated in the closing laps, dropping him to 15th at the finish.

The Pizza Hut Racing Camaro also enjoyed a strong qualifying performance, narrowly missing the Shootout in 12th.

Macauley Jones suffered a spin in the tricky conditions and was unable to regain the lost ground, ultimately bringing the #96 Camaro home in 17th.

The team now prepares for the final Supercars round of 2025 in Adelaide, taking place in 10 days (27–30 November).

SUPERCARS QUOTEBOARD

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

"Much the same story as Jaxon in Qualifying. Zigged when we should have zagged. Started last and came home 10th, so I'm pretty happy. Cars are very speedy but it's just hard to pass in the dry. We just need to stop qualifying down the back."

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Middy's Racing Camaro

“That's Sandown all done and dusted. It would have been nice to have done a little bit of a better job and converted a better race for us here on Sunday. I was in fifth, or something similar before a mistake, but ended up eighth which I’m still happy with that. A solid weekend finishing within in the top 10 in all the sessions from Saturday onwards, which was really exciting. So a good day and I'm looking forward to the last round in a couple of weeks' time."

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

"A difficult weekend here at Sandown. Qualifying this morning we had some good speed, missed the Shootout by two hundredths of a second so that was disappointing but still good to start 12th. It was an improvement from yesterday’s Quali. Really struggled in the race with the conditions. It rained early on and we all pitted for wets and struggled from there. Got lots of laps to do tomorrow for the ride day and we’ll press on for Adelaide in a few weeks."

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

"Started with qualifying, which was poor as we gambled on coming in to put a second set of tyres on. It started raining and we didn’t make it through to the second part which was a bit of a shame, so we were starting 20th. I got an okay start. The team made a good strategy call to pit slightly early to go to the wets. Then, when others came out, our tyres were up to temperature so we could make up some positions. A great call from the team. Unfortunately, when we went back onto the slicks we didn’t quite have the car speed. I felt like there was maybe something wrong with the rear of our car; so that's something to look into overnight and in the debrief. Pretty frustrating ending to what was a difficult weekend. There is definitely more potential than the results show. A big thanks to the guys for digging deep."
