Heimgartner surfs into Top Ten Shootout after Friday at the Gold Coast 500
Andre Heimgartner has produced an incredible lap in Friday afternoon’s qualifying, which sees him into the Top Ten Shootout.
Brad Jones Racing are happy with the set-up direction of all three cars and are positive heading into racing on Saturday.
Friday
Qualifying - Race 31
Heimgartner was the quickest of the BJR crew, setting a lap that was within 0.0871 seconds of provisional pole.
Macauley Jones in the #96 Automotive Superstore GR Supra is confident in the car’s set-up. A small mistake in his third sector on his quickest lap means he starts 15th, but there was potential in the car for a top ten result in qualifying.
Cam Hill is still chasing a better car balance in the #14 Dare Racing GR Supra, which the team will look into overnight.
The day started with a torrential downpour; however, the track had dried up before the qualifying session late in the afternoon. There’s potential for more rain tomorrow, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.
The Top Ten Shootout is due to start at 12:45 AEST on Saturday and Race 31 is set to get underway at 15:15 AEST.

Andre Heimgartner, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra
“Solid day. Really happy with fourth going to the shootout. So looking forward to tomorrow and who knows what the conditions will be. But the car felt good when we rolled it out and continued in that session.”
Cameron Hill, #14 Dare Racing Toyota GR Supra
“I felt pretty good in the wet in the morning and then made a small mistake in practice two and swiped the wall which meant we couldn't continue in that session so we lost a few laps. Then probably just didn't quite have my rhythm going in quali. So never want to be qualifying where we did but my car feels okay so we'll just have a crack tomorrow.”
Macauley Jones, #96 Automotive Superstore Toyota GR Supra
“My day was okay. It felt like the balance was reasonably good which is nice around this joint. It's a fun time with some mixed conditions, a lot more dry running than we probably expected which is good. Maybe optimistic for the rest of the weekend but some positives to take away from today. Would have been nice to be slightly faster and be in the top 10 because I think it's pretty special around this joint. But we'll press on for that on Sunday.”
