Fullwood races into the top ten in last Townsville 500 race

Bryce Fullwood has continued his great momentum into Sunday in Townsville for Brad Jones Racing.

He was the fastest car of the BJR quartet in qualifying and was able to maximise a good strategy and fast visits to the lane to make up seven spots in the race.

The Mr Umami Camaro came through from 16th on the grid to claim 9th in Race 22.

Garage-mate Andre Heimgartner also had a strong race, proving that there’s great race pace in the R&J Batteries Camaro.

Coming through from 21st to 11th, the result means Heimgartner stays within the top ten in the Drivers standings.

Macaulay Jones in the Pizza Hut Racing Camaro also had pace in hand this afternoon, moving forward to 15th at the chequered flag.

The SCT Motorsport Camaro had a good recovery over Sunday, with Jaxon Evans finishing 17th.

BJR now prepares for the Ipswich Super 440 (8-10 August), the last of the Sprint Cup.

Super2

A steady Sunday wraps up the final day of on-track activity for the Super2 series.

The early morning qualifying session saw an improvement for both drivers with Brad qualifying 5th and Cody behind in 15th.

Both drivers struggled to pass cars during the race on the tricky and tight circuit.

#80 Dormer HVAC Service ZB Commodore driver Brad Vaughan couldn’t quite maintain his race pace and crossed the line in 9th.

Cody Gillis maintained his position and came home 15th.

The Super2 series heads to Ipswich for Round 4 of the Series on August 8-10.

SUPERCARS QUOTEBOARD

Andre Heimgartner
Supercars driver, #8 R&J Batteries Camaro

“Good salvage job in that race from our qualifying position so I’m happy with that. Just was a bit gun shy after yesterday at the start which probably cost us quite a bit of time. We just need to actually get some qualifying speed going.”

Bryce Fullwood
Supercars driver, #14 Mr Umami Racing Camaro

“Good day here and good weekend really in Townsville. We didn't quite get it hooked up in qualifying and started out at 16th. I feel like the potential was there, but it was a little bit harder for us today. The race car was mega. Had really good speed, boys did an awesome job again in the pit stops and we came back to ninth overall. So really good day. Salvaged a heap of points there in that race and a good day for the team's championship too.”

Macauley Jones
Supercars driver, #96 Pizza Hut Racing Camaro

“Much better day today.  Obviously qualifying was a bit of a struggle for us but I feel like we learned a fair bit today which is good and found a better direction for the race car which is nice. The old long run in the first two stints to finish happy was a bit more interesting strategy for us. It was fun to drive it.”

Jaxon Evans
Supercars driver, #12 SCT Motorsport Camaro

“A better day than we have had in the past couple of weeks. A little bit disappointing to qualify 20th. But in the end, we were happy. Car was straight. Car didn't do anything wrong so just thought about the race. And, you know, getting our heads down and getting some race laps under the belt. And survive the, I guess you wouldn't call it carnage but just survive. Felt like we had pretty decent pace considering I felt like I was playing catch up. A big thanks to Jules and Lochie coaching me through it, the guys in pit lane and, everyone for digging deep and continuing to fix the car and get us out for each session.”

SUPER2 QUOTEBOARD

Cody Gillis
Super2 driver, #9 TropicPetroleum ZB Commodore

“Made minor improvements today and got everything a little bit better but still wasn’t enough. Huge thanks to Tropic Petroleum and Dare Iced Coffee for the major support over the weekend. We’ll be looking to come back stronger in Ipswich.”

Brad Vaughan
Super2 driver, #80 Dormer HVAC ZB Commodore

“Started the race from 5th and settled into position early on. Had some braking issues hindering us but fought hard to stay inside the 10. Looking forward to having another test day so that we can get things sorted for QR.”
