BJR Set to regroup after opening Christchurch Supercars race

Brad Jones Racing will look to reset after the opening race in Christchurch.

Experienced local Andre Heimgartner led the BJR contingent on Friday in the South Island, finishing 13th.

The team will be aiming for stronger results tomorrow, with two races scheduled.

BJR returns to the track for qualifying at 10:05am NZST / 8:05am AEST.

Race 10

  • Andre Heimgartner (R&J Batteries GR Supra) qualified 13th

  • Macauley Jones (John West Logistics GR Supra) qualified 20th

  • Cameron Hill (ElectroVoice GR Supra) qualified 22nd

  • Heimgartner finished where he started following a tough sprint race. He lost position on the start but a quick stop for four tyres on Lap 23, meant he was right back up to 13th at the flag.

  • Jones and Hill were both involved in a start line incident. Both of the Supras had to come to pitlane. However after initial checks, Jones was cleared to continue.

  • Jones had damage to the right hand side of the car which meant he was down on performance and was a lap down. The JWL Racing Supra finished 22nd

  • Hill sustained damage to the right front corner which meant he had to bring the #14 Supra into the garage for repairs. The crew did an incredible to fix the car and return it to the track but ultimately the #14 had to retire on the last lap.

SUPERCARS

Andre Heimgartner, #8 R&J Batteries Toyota GR Supra

“Decent I guess in the end and stayed out of trouble. But still just trying to find our feet and not quite the race car we wanted. Just gonna be looking for some more speed tomorrow. Hopefully we can engineer some speed into her and I can drive it better and we can end up further up.”

Cameron Hill, #14 ElectroVoice Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Today has got to be close to my worst day at the racetrack ever. Didn't get any practice laps with an engine loom issue that gave us a pretty big disadvantage for qualifying. Qualified down the back and then some blokes decided to crash in a straight line and I was just an innocent victim, so the car was pretty toasted. We did get back out there though. The guys worked really hard, so I have to say big thank you to the whole crew because right now for me, I'm just trying to get laps on this track. Haven't really been able to get many so we'll try again tomorrow.”

Macauley Jones, #96 John West Logistics Racing Toyota GR Supra

“Still a work in progress to be honest. It's a really cool track and it's cool to be here at Ruapuna for the first time. Just need a bit of work to be done. I feel like we're changing a lot of stuff on the car and trying to figure out some direction but, really disappointing in the race. I didn't really get much of a chance to have a fight there because I just got hit in a straight line which was pretty awful to be honest but more racing to come, two more days to go.”
