Smith made his debut in the Dunlop Super2 Series in 2016 at Bathurst, also finishing in the top 10 in the Australian Formula 4 Championship that year and competing in the Australian GT Trophy Series in the MARC Class.
In 2017 he made the move to Brad Jones Racing in both the Super2 Series as well as the V8 Touring Car Series, winning the title in the latter.
In 2018 he repeated the double duty, taking his first top-three Super2 race finish at Symmons Plains on his way to 10th in the standings, while claiming a pair of V8 Touring Car round wins and finishing fourth in the points core despite missing two events.
The move into the Supercars Championship full-time with BJR in 2020 saw him finish his rookie campaign 22nd in the championship.
2021 brought with it glimpses of what we can hope to see from the young gun - in qualifying for the opening race at Symmons Plains, Smith vaulted from 23rd on combined practice times to post a career-best 10th place, making it through to the final part of the three-phase knockout qualifying format.
Smith heads into 2023 reinvigorated with the brand new Gen3 regulations.
