THE RECAP & WORD FROM NICK / MACAULEY
Over 206,000 people walked through the gates to the famous Mount Panorama circuit this weekend, the second biggest attendance on record, and a peak audience of over 5 million tuned in to watch the greatest race of the year – The Bathurst 1000.
Nick Percat and Macauley Jones were eager to get behind the wheel of the Repco Authorised Service Supercar for the 161-lap battle and were starting out of 7th position. Whilst conditions were cool, temperatures still soared inside the Supercars today. Macauley did a fantastic job behind the wheel early in the race, managing to avoid incident when Premat re-joined the circuit after a high-speed run off the chase, which then saw three cars go wide into the final corner.
At the half way mark of the race, the duo were sitting in 12th position. Both Macauley and Nick were on the radio to the team advising the power steering was working intermittently, therefore the duo would have their work cut out for them this afternoon.
With no safety car periods, drivers were starting to feel fatigue in the latter part of the race; with cramps and heat starting to take their toll. With the finish line in sight, Nick was focused and determined to make it across the finish line. Nick, Macauley and the Repco Authorised Service team did an impressive job today to cross the line in 7th.
This result gives Nick his 5th top ten finish from eight starts, and Macauley’s second top ten finish at the Mountain.
“Macauley and I brought the Repco Authorised Service Supercar home in 7th which was pretty incredible considering we had some serious issues with our power steering today, it’s a credit to Macauley in his stints today to drive as well as he did.”
“A big thanks to the guys and girls here at BJR to build us a great car and help us get it home in 7th today. I had cramps for the last 40 or so laps, it was a struggle out there to get any kind of break with no safety cars. As a team we have that never give up mentality, so everyone pressed on to get the best job done today.”
“The support this weekend from the Repco Authorised Service teams and all our loyal partners has been huge, from people dropping in to see us trackside and the mountain of messages online, its been awesome. Thanks to everyone who has supported us this weekend, it doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.”
