THE WORD FROM NICK

The cool and windy Symmons Plains track proved tricky today, and found a few unlikely candidates qualify down the order, Nick being one of them. The new qualifying format was on the agenda today and after 10 minutes to clock a fast time, Nick found himself only 0.102 of a second from progressing into the second qualifying session.

Starting out of 18th Nick was brilliant getting off the start line with the fast paced Blackwoods Racing Commodore, making up three spots by the end of the first lap. Nick continued to battle and gain ground, after his late pit stop he tangled with Rick Kelly, dropping a couple of spots before claiming them back. Nick was one of the bigger movers of the day, going from 18th to 12th, and remains 8th in the championship.

NICK

“We’ve managed to move forward today which has been really positive. We’ve improved the turn in the car and I’ve got more confidence in braking too.”

“I had a battle with Rick Kelly at the start of the race and straight after our pit stop, there was a bit of paint swapping, nothing too serious but getting caught up in that, especially the tangle after the pit stop, probably cost us a spot or two.”

“I’m really happy that we’ve made inroads with the setup today. After battling a bit in practice and qualifying this gain should make for a good day tomorrow. I’m keen to get my first top ten result here in Tasmania and I feel we’re not that far off, so tomorrow could be the day!”
